Prioritize Your Well Being

Prioritizing Your Well Being!

It’s almost that time when Landscapers and Professional Gardeners begin to reawaken the landscapes.  As this reawakening happens, often in the chaos of spring our self-care practices, and our more importantly our wellbeing takes a backseat.  More work = less personal time = less care for me!  I challenge you to continue to put yourself first and you will be more productive, more efficient and improve your total well being.

Start with building a morning routine.  Whether you have a family at home, pets or just you, make time for you in the morning.  Set the alarm clock a few minutes earlier or use the time you currently have more effectively.  Your routine doesn’t have to be an hour long, even 10 or 15 minutes can change how you approach your day.

Ending your day with an evening routine can go a long way to support your morning routine as well as a quality night sleep. Here are some ideas.

Morning Routine Ideas – many of these suggestions can take a little as 3-5 minutes allowing you to stack some together.  Start with things you know you can accomplish and then add as you get the routine down.  The hardest part of a morning routine is starting!

  • Gratitude
  • Meditation or Prayer
  • Reading
  • Personal development
  • Exercise
  • Goal Setting
  • Nutrition
  • Hydration
  • Plan Your Day

Evening Routine Ideas – Set yourself up for success, by ending your day reflecting on today, and preparing for tomorrow.  Settle your mind and body to prepare for a restful night’s sleep.

  • Gratitude
  • Limit Electronics
  • Plan for Tomorrow
  • Journal

Let’s talk a little bit more about sleep.

Often, we can feel sluggish during the day. Ever hit that moment when you feel like if you don’t have more caffeine, you just can’t make it through the day?  Daytime fatigue, brain fog and the inability to complete tasks often are derived from a poor night’s sleep.  We all know we need more sleep than we get, however, getting quality sleep over quantity can go along way.

Prepare your space for Sleep

  • Darken your room and cover lights and dim or cover clocks!
  • Cool your space
  • Limit activities such as TV, Electronics in your room
  • Use a sound machine or soothing noise
  • Prepare for tomorrow before bedtime (limits monkey brain)
  • Set a bedtime and be consistent with the time

Finding a balance between work and personal life is challenging for anyone especially those juggling family responsibilities or other commitments. Setting boundaries, delegating tasks, and learning to say no are essential skills for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Making time for self-care activities outside of work is equally important to recharge and avoid burnout.

The importance of wellness and self-care for women in landscaping cannot be overstated. By prioritizing your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, women can not only thrive in a male-dominated industry but also set an example for future generations of female landscapers. It’s crucial for women in landscaping to make self-care a priority, seek support when needed, and advocate for a healthy work environment that values their well-being. Remember, put yourself first and you will be more productive, more efficient and improve your total wellbeing.
